For this assignment, I chose to look at Colin Gray's work. Specifically in his series titled "The Parents". (The link should take you straight to this series) Ever since we first looked at Colin Gray toward the beginning of the semester, I saw his images in this series and thought of my grandparents. At first for the assignment, I wanted to do landscape photography. As I went through my list of artists we've covered (before I could find a landscape photographer I wanted to emulate), I came across Gray. I instantly knew which images I wanted to do. While taking the pictures, I realized just how truly difficult it was to photograph in my grandparents' home. The whole house is very dimly lit, with hardly any windows. Almost all my images that I took there were ending up underexposed. I had to use my highest ISO setting, which made the pictures come out very grainy. Some of them it works, others it's just distracting (in my opinion). All-in-all, it was an enlightening experience, and I enjoyed working with my grandparents. I think they've gained a new appreciation for my interest in photography.
