Amy McVaugh, 4.6.13, Artisit Post
I really enjoyed looking at Raymond Meek's work. The innocent beauty featured is enhanced with the use black and white film. The pictures also accurately portray his fondness for open spaces and desire to embrace every one of life's moments, as time passes and changes life all to quickly.
The first picture I selected with the women running through the field at the unsuspecting geese, simply feels carefree. His decision to keep the entire depth of field clear makes it almost feel as if one could easily join these two in their quest for fun. It also adds to a sense of unbridled freedom and a fun, lazy afternoon. It's easy to envision them falling to the ground, laughing and enjoying this simple play.
The second picture I chose because I could not figure out how he kept the bottom right corner somewhat crisp and blurred the rest. The effect reminds me of a 'dream sequence,' somewhat blurred, with the focal point strongly enhanced with the use of light, but the detail is still accurate to the point that it's easy to know what the image is. Even though he shared that he was driving while taking his pictures, I was not able to accurately portray this image.
