For the past couple of weeks I have been studying and taking pictures after the wonderful photographer Alec Soth. After discussing him in class from one of the first days, I was automatically hooked to his work. I am honored I get the opportunity to take pictures inspired by this wonderful artist. These pictures are inspired by his project named "Dog Days, Bogata" which is a wonderful collection of his work. The First picture is a wall from my own bedroom. There was this one picture that he took of a bunch of other pictures on a blank wall. I didn't know who those people were or why the pictures were on there. But whatever reason, they were up on the wall because they were special to someone, they were part of someone's life. Tennessee is a huge part of my life. Without UT my parents wouldn't have met and I wouldn't be here. Not only that, but I spent most of my life watching Vols games and seeing my family in Tennessee who became very close to me. That's what his picture and my picture mean to me. The second picture I took is of my Brother's wall. As you can see, he loves football. The picture that inspired this one was near the back of the project. It shows a baby picture on the wall and on the table there are a bunch of books. This picture caught my eye, and I have no clue why it interests me so much. The reason I decided to chose my brother's room is because my brother is my BABY brother. He's still that infant child that we brought home from the hospital in Macon, Georgia in 1999. I can't believe he'll be fourteen soon. I love this picture because the meaning to it has gotten me to think about my family and what they mean to me. The Third picture looks just like the picture that Alec Soth took in his work. I couldn't read the book titles that were under the grapes in his picture. This one is ironic and funny to me. As you all can remember I have a weird, sarcastic sense of humor. In this case, I decided to take this picture as a reflection upon myself and who I am. My mom is trying to cook more fattening food because I have lost 23 pounds in the past two weeks. I myself don't want to eat bad food so I am still eating like a rabbit by eating things such as grapes. I love this picture in so many ways and forms. The Fourth picture is kinda going against the title of the project I am trying to reflect. I don't have a dog or any birds so I used the cat who woke me up at four a.m. to take this picture. In Alec Soth's project, he took a picture of a bird on a chair. The relationship between the two pictures is dominance. The bird is the only living form in the picture, it's his chair, he owns it. In my picture, the cat owns the chair; she owns the whole house but that's beside the point. I chose the lighting slightly behind her head because it makes her look evil and dominant. The last and final picture I chose was taken on accident but I love this picture. After the picture of two people, I assume in a relationship, in Alec Soth's book, I wanted to get something of a couple but I never thought I would get my parents. Dad was helping out mom with breakfast on Sunday Morning. It was the sweetest thing. I took it with a flash because this was one of the brightest moments we've had in years, not to get all personal but I think I've crossed the line before. Even though they're not in the same pose as the original picture, it's still a sweet time in a relationship to see. Thank you for reading my novel that I just wrote. I have sincerely enjoyed this class and all you have taught us.
