2 Solitudes - Landscape
This landscape image is from the series titled “2 Solitudes” by Raymond Meeks, which exemplifies the necessary characteristics of a strong landscape image. The three elements of a great landscape image require the photograph to have a foreground, background and good lighting. In the foreground element of this scene there is blurring which indicates there was movement by the photographer and a slow/longer opening shutter time/speed setting on the camera. The background element of this image is blurred and displays increased smoothness in texture when compared to the foreground. Lastly, the lighting in this image, being primarily placed at the top, creates a contrast on many levels between the foreground and the background. The photographer is ultimately responsible when creating a strong landscape image to make sure that all three of these elements are present.
2 Solitudes - Portrait
This portrait was composed by Raymond Meeks and included in
his series titled “2 Solitudes”. In this image I see elements of a bold
portrait. First, in the background with
its deep depth of field, the larger tree on the left side of the frame becomes
part of the foreground symmetry nearly as much as the tent. Second, the texture
in the foreground makes it appear the camera was positioned close to the ground
because of the way the grass blades appear. The contrasting color is darker in
the foreground and lighter as your viewing proceeds up and passes the human subject
(appearing to be in isolation) leading into the background. With the framing of
this image in regards to the camera angle, a pattern is created making the
human subject appear as tall as the trees.
