Artist: Susan Worsham
Images from: http://susanworshamphotography.com/zoom/1400x720/2421615.html and http://susanworshamphotography.com/zoom/1400x720/1542693.html

Out of all of the photographs of Susan Worsham's By the Grace of God, I chose these two images.  The first image is of an old and tattered book about the Civil War sitting in what could be an old car.  I find this photograph to be strong because it utilizes the objects within the picture very well.  The placement of the antique booklet about the Civil War on the seat of a possibly antique automobile gives the viewer the sense that everything is worn and tattered, everything was heavily utilized in the past, and everything is a distant and  dilapidated memory.  The second picture is a scene filled with worn and destroyed buildings and structures of the past.  I find this photograph to be strong because it possesses several symbols of a past age that has come and gone.  The rusty sign symbolizes a store or a hotel that was open and prosperous sometime during the 1950s but more than likely fell into bankruptcy, disappeared, and became a distant and rugged memory of the past.  The plant growth below the sign and next to the white house symbolizes nature erasing the old environment and creating a new environment.
