Amy McVaugh, 2.3.13, Image for Critique
The top picture is my overexposed image. I actually like it as it looks a little eerie, as if something grabbed the tops of the trees off for some unknown reason. The sky appears to glow with a powerful light, making a person wonder if there is something good or evil lurking from above.
The bottom photo is my underexposed photo. The photo itself is quite boring, but was the best underexposed photo I created without resulting in an almost complete black out of the image. The only thing I find interesting about this picture is that the large window behind me was not covered, allowing plenty of sunlight to stream in, and the underexposure would almost make someone question the time of day this picture was taken.
I had grand ideas to document the settings my camera were on when taking these pictures, but neglected to do so. One lesson learned will be to purchase a small notebook to carry with me when taking photos to document my settings as I take the pictures instead of trying to remember them in my head.
This project was interesting to try. I have a lot to learn but I do love how the over/under exposures can breathe a certain element of intrigue into an image and enhance the message the artist is trying to portray.
