This week I chose to capture people dealing with opposite ends of the stick in life. John (top two), has had the average "American Dream" life. He is 17 years old and in a suburban high school in Chesterfield. Corey (bottom), who is also 17 and in the same suburban school, has had a very opposite life style. John's parents are middle class blue collars, with high expectations and aspirations for their children, put a tight leash upon them and have high standards for just about everything. John has many rules to abide by in his home while Corey has pretty much been free to fly by the seat of his pants for the majority of his life. Corey's parents are far from abnormal but not nearly the same as John's. Corey's dad was just released from an 8 year prison sentence for either grand theft auto or drug abuse, Corey's mother has pretty much disowned him and he now lives with his grandfather who is battling cancer and his frail grandmother. Although Corey is really happy he's got his dad around again considering he's been missing for a good half of his life, he is really depressed a lot of the time because he is close to losing the only father figure he's had in his life, his grandfather.  I'm not sure what is appropriate to call my concept besides opposites attract, John and Corey are the best of friends even though their environments, pasts, and home lives are completely different.  I chose to focus mainly on the boys and set them in neutral environmental scenes because a huge part of their friendship is their love of the south, the outdoors and cars. I used different neutral backgrounds to express the differences in their lifestyles, but also the similarity (their connection), that they are both outside.
