I chose these two images because they show very different realities of the same space.  The top image shows a man, apparently downtrodden, looking directly into the camera.  He is dark, perhaps suggesting a desire to come to the light or an inability to escape the darkness.  The bottom image is a landscape, perhaps an empty lot.  It comes from the same place as the man.  Perhaps beauty is present in his life, perhaps only the photographer can see it.  Nonetheless, these two realities are a sharp juxtaposition considering their exquivalence.

  1. I find the top image to be a very emotionally moving one. I love the depth of emotion the man seems to show through his eyes. They convey the knowledge known only to those who have suffered much in life but refuse to become bitter. I see a reflection of love, tenderness and adoration in his eyes, as if he is sending off a beloved child to school or marriage.
