Jeanette Wright, 1/13/13, Image for Critique
This is a picture of my son and our dog. I like the motion and emotion in the shot. I don't usually like blurred pictures, but in this one that added to it's appeal.
A meaningful picture tells a story. It evokes some kind of emotion, good or bad. The cliche is that a picture captures a moment in time, and while that is true, it also captures the emotion. When I look an old picture, I can feel the emotion of whatever day that was. When I look at someone else's picture, the emotions I feel may have nothing to do with what they were feeling when they took the picture, but I produce my own story and feelings about that image. Certain images produce calm feelings and others stir up unrest-that's what helps make them meaningful. Some images make us pause and reflect. Even the pictures that are just pretty to look at serve a purpose, even if it is just for decoration. For one moment they put us in another place.
