Justin Piaoan Image for Critique 1/20/13
This Photo to me deemed the less cliche because nothing was a plan shot. I was just shooting around having fun capturing a moment. I went into this weeks shooting assignment with the mindset of " Alright only 250 photos lets do this." It gravitated from lying awake in bed shooting upward to the sun, a view of myself driving, passer-byers', drunken stupors of individuals, architecture, wildlife, down to the grittiness of a storage unit, to which you see here.
This situation that I've captured is a depiction of my bands practice. Yeah, it's sort of cliche to shoot music; there's an abundance of it. One could snap a photo and even be glorified as "rolling stone" worthy.I on the other hand just simply told everyone to play. As they played I snapped away, from sitting in the corners, climbing amplifiers, rafters, standing outside; I got the perfect shot standing on top of the drums capturing my guitarist and bassist.
Not only did I capture them physically, but their essence as well. The essence of their youthful and joy into their craft. The joy of creating sounds that are universal and a common language with everything and anything, inanimate or animate. This picture shows separation from others in our so called "future of today" who are all ornery, consumed, drained, only wanting to cut the cord on life, when they haven't even lived yet, only existing ever to live stateside. This picture also illuminates that the simple things in life and embracing others is better than being the king of diamonds and glass houses.
