Shannon Richardson, 1/11/13, Artist Post

The artist that I chose for the week is Hartmut Schwarzbach.  The two photos above came from the album entitled "The tire burner Manila- Annalyn and her children at the Smokey Mountain Manila."  There were no individual titles for each photo.  It took me a couple of days to come across an artists whose photos "moved" or evoked some sort of emotion from me.  The work that I viewed from this artist focuses on the impoverished and some issues that are prevalent in third world countries that us as Americans are not accustomed to hearing about.  There is another album/project on his page that displays child labor in Cambodia (picture below).  Sometimes we all get so worked up or consumed about what may be going on in our daily lives and the photos made me realize that although I may not have everything I want or be where I want to be in life, there are others that are far worse off.  Photos such as the ones used make me appreciate everything that I have attained and makes me grateful that I was born in a country that has so much to offer.  There are so many opportunities that people fail to pursue or take advantage of.  Even those who are considered the worst off in this country have so much more the people featured in this artists projects.  I know what poverty within the US looks like but it doesn't even compare to the poverty that is displayed in the countries that the artist chose for his projects.
