This portrait was one of my favorites by Bryan Schutmaat.  I chose this picture because it doesn't look like the average portrait to me.  Usually when I think of portraits I think of people smiling and posing for the picture.  In this photo, the subject doesn't look "staged".  He appears to be in deep thought.  I also think he looks tired and worn...like he's lived a long, difficult, life.  I think a good portrait should be one that makes the viewer think more about the subject.

I noticed that the majority of the images on the website are in a area that has mountains.  I also noticed that the colors don't seem to be very vivid.  The  pictures of the mountainside appear "cooler" in tone...I suppose it's the white balance that makes the images appear more blue in tone.  This was my favorite of the landscape photos.  I believe a good landscape photo captures details about the area.  From the photo, I can tell that they are in a region with lots of hills and mountains.  The photo seems to have been taken in the early morning.  The color of the sky, the clouds, and the fog give clues about the photo.
