The Artist I selected this week is John Shearer. John was born in 1947. He discovered photography at

age eleven, and by the time he was 15 he was taking professional pictures. His father was friends with

Gordon Parks, who lived on the same street as John's family. Gordon Parks became his biggest

influence, and Mentor. At age 17 he was hired to work at life magazine. He covered the Civil Rights,

and Race riots of the 1960's, The Fight of the Century(Ali vs. Frazier) The 1st fight.  Sherear had many

other great stories even the Attica Riots in 1972. He won 175 National photography awards. His work

has been exhibited at Metropolitan museum of art and Whitney Museum.
